The Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherds get their name, not from their country of origin, but from the sheep they were bread to herd. A mixture of American farm dog and English herding dog, like the Border Collie, this bread of animal was made purposely to heard sheep brought from Australia to the US.

The Aussie is the perfect dog for an active family that likes the outdoors. He is a very versatile dog that loves every kind of activity.

Though longhaired, his coat is easy to handle. He was bread as a farmer’s dog, and farmers don’t have time to dedicate to maintaining a care intensive coat. Further, he is a very smart and loyal dog used to working and comfortable with people.

You don’t need to walk you Aussie all day to make him happy; nor do you need to spend countless hours throwing his favorite toy. It is mental games that he likes—learning tricks and commands. And of course, he is a social dog and wants to be a part of the family.
